Winterthur has a new concert label. Three music fans, a shared passion, and one goal: more ska, reggae, and rocksteady for the region.
It started, as so many things in the music scene do – over a beer and a simple realization: there's too little ska, reggae, and rocksteady in Winterthur. Too few evenings where the offbeat rolls through the room, people dance, and the beer is cold. We wanted to change that.
We are Gino, Raphi, and Charly. Three music fans who have been active in the Swiss Ska and Reggae scene for years – in front of the stage, behind the stage, on the stage. Gino and Raphi grew up together, have played in various bands together for years, and know the scene inside and out. Charly, with "People with good taste in music" (mmgm.ch), has already organized two Ska Nights at Royal in Baden and knows how to put on an evening where everyone goes home with a smile.
We met through music – where else? At some point, our paths crossed at concerts, then at a gig at the Ahoi Hill brewery in Otelfingen, and finally, a casual acquaintance turned into a friendship, and a friendship into an idea.
Why Eulach Vibes?
The name was important to us. We wanted a connection to Winterthur – our hometown, the place where we live and experience music. The Eulach, the river that winds through the city, was the perfect link. And "Vibes"? That captures the feeling we want to share. Good music, good atmosphere, good people. The name should roll off the tongue – and feel exactly that way.
At the same time, we didn't want to tie ourselves to one place. Eulach Vibes is starting in Winterthur, but who knows – maybe we'll end up in other cities someday.
What drives us
We aren't concert promoters in the traditional sense. We're fans who at some point thought, "Now let's give something back to the scene." Eulach Vibes is a non-profit label. Which means: admission as affordable as possible, fair conditions for the venue, and maximum pay for the bands. It's that simple.
Anyone familiar with the ska and reggae scene in Switzerland knows it’s like a big family. You keep seeing the same faces, everyone knows each other, and everyone’s happy to see one another. Everyone is friendly, everyone loves to dance, and everyone enjoys having a beer together. We don’t want to compete—we want to work together and help make sure there are more evenings like this.
And something very important: everyone is welcome here. Truly everyone. Anyone who enjoys good music has a place with us – whether you're a die-hard scene regular or a newcomer. And if you're short on cash, we'll find a solution. That's important to us.
Our Home: The Lok.al in Winterthur
The search for the right location was a story in itself. We contacted many venues in Winterthur last year and now we know: finding a place that fits our philosophy – affordable ticket prices without compromising on the experience – isn't something you can take for granted.
So we're even happier that we landed at Lok.al at Zeughausstrasse 52. We discovered it by chance during a friend's birthday party and fell in love immediately. Lok.al is a beautiful place: lots of warm wood, a small but excellent stage, a lovely outdoor area, and the unique combination with the second-hand shop. It's only a 15-minute walk from the train station, well-equipped, and run by Martin, the easygoing guy who's open to our ideas. The collaboration has felt like a partnership from day one – it works for both sides.
What happens next
Our plan: 2 to 3 events a year. No more, no less. Quality over quantity. We want the name Eulach Vibes to stand for something – good music, cold beer at fair prices, a place where everyone feels welcome. And maybe in the future, we'll even have some great food to go with it.
